Sustainably Sourced Norwegian Wool

Our journey begins in the scenic landscapes of Norway, where sheep have grazed for centuries. We source our wool through Norilia, a company committed to utilizing surplus wool in a way that supports animal welfare and protects Norwegian farming traditions. The sheep are raised by local farmers who follow high standards of ethical animal care. No part of the animal is wasted, and the wool, often considered a by-product, is given new life through thoughtful craftsmanship.

Standard Washing Process for Norwegian Wool

As part of a standard practice for all Norwegian wool, Norilia sends the raw wool to Curtis Wool in England for washing. Curtis Wool is renowned for its environmentally friendly and high-quality scouring techniques. Here, the wool is carefully cleaned to remove dirt, grease, and impurities using sustainable methods that preserve the fiber’s natural qualities while minimizing environmental impact.

Spun with Care in Italy

The cleaned and sorted wool then travels to Filitaly, a family-run factory near Florence, Italy. Filitaly is known for its expertise, traceability, and sustainable practices. Here, the wool is carefully carded, spun, and when needed, dyed using OEKO-TEX® certified dyes that are safe for both humans and the environment.

The factory uses energy-efficient processes and maintains strict waste-reduction standards. Skilled artisans oversee every step, ensuring the yarn retains the natural strength, warmth, and softness of the original wool.

Why Does Our Wool Travel?

As a small family brand in Norway, we don’t have the resources to operate our own factory. Instead, we partner with trusted specialists across Europe who excel in each part of the process, from ethical wool sourcing and gentle washing to expert spinning. This collaboration ensures the highest quality yarn while supporting sustainable and responsible production methods.

Though it involves shipping, this approach is common in the industry and actually helps reduce environmental impact by using existing, sustainable facilities rather than building new ones.

Transparency and partnerships like these allow us to create high-quality, ethically produced yarn.
