Meet Caroline Sagafos – a ceramic artist and former lawyer with her own studio at Bekkelund Farm in Vollen, just outside Oslo.
After graduating from law school, expectations were high. Everyone around Caroline assumed they knew what her next career move would be. But instead of following the conventional path, she chose a different direction.
Although she didn't grow up in a particularly creative environment, she felt an increasing urge to explore different forms of artistic expression. Before long, the desire to create outweighed the prospect of "arguing with people" as a lawyer. Still, it wasn't until she took a ceramics course in Bali that she truly felt she had found something she was meant to do. A spark was lit, and for the first time, she discovered an inner confidence she had never experienced before.
When Caroline and her family moved to the small farm at Vollen, the vision was already clear. Before they had even finished unpacking, Caroline was determined to host her very first ceramics workshop in the garden. Over the years, those workshops at Bekkelund Farm have become many. She has created a creative oasis on the farm, complete with her own ceramics studio, a greenhouse that also serves as a venue for celebrations and workshops, and, most importantly, a home for her family.
Caroline and her family also host Open Farm Days at Bekkelund Farm, where visitors can enjoy pony rides, creative workshops, gold panning, and pottery classes. They have also invited local makers and producers to set up stalls, offering everything from hand-knitted garments to baked goods and handmade ceramics. Caroline says these events have become some of the family's favorite days of the year, with their children and neighborhood kids proudly helping welcome guests and running the café.
At a time when everyday life is often defined by stress, busy schedules, and constant distractions, Caroline is passionate about creating a place where visitors can slow down, breathe, and reconnect with themselves. She also believes in the calming effect of working with natural materials like clay.
"Working with clay helps us relax. It makes us feel good," Caroline says, noting that visitors often lose all sense of time while immersed in creating in her studio.
Choosing uncertainty over security—and trusting her instincts—has grown into a way of life for the entire family, a decision Caroline has never regretted. Being able to express herself through clay while inspiring others to make space for creativity in their busy lives has become her true calling.
